Activities that may Cause Gamekeeper's Thumb
Originally, gamekeeper's thumb was most likely to occur in Scottish gamekeepers, hence the name gamekeeper's thumb. Gamekeepers used force created between their thumbs and the ground to break the neck of several type of game and the repetitive force created caused the injury. More often however, Gamekeeper's thumb is likely to occur in skiers who fall and land on their poles (5). That being said, gamekeeper's thumb can occur in any activity that may cause forceful hyperabduction of the thumb, especially in sports that require the use of the hand such as football and wrestling (8).
